Skimboarding is an extreme sport which combines many other sports into one such as; skateboarding, surfing, longboarding and snowboarding. Skimboarding requires much skill in order to remain balanced and stable on the board whilst riding on the sand, catching waves or doing tricks.

There are two types of Skimboarding, flatland and wave riding. Flatland is performed on the sand covered with a small amount of water, shallow rivers and even parks covered with water. Wave riding is performed at the beach with waves that crash on the beach or very close to it.

So what actually is Skimboarding?
Skimboarding is when the rider gently throws the board on the water covered sand in front of them whilst running and then the rider jumps on which then results in a smooth glide across the sand or in deep water. Each time the rider jumps on they can perform various tricks (see tricks for more info).

What do I need to Skimboard?
To Skimboard you will firstly need a board ( There is a guide on boards above). Secondly you will need a beach to skimboard on, preferably one that has no rocks and has a slight slope into to the water. Depending on the temperature of the water you might need to wear a wetsuit to keep warm.
